Is 55% inheritance tax enough to destroy most family owned small businesses, or do we need a higher tax?

Yes, the Bush tax cuts had all but eliminated the inheritance tax, a tax that brings in a paltry amount to the treasury. Yes, there are ways to get around it with trusts and such, but the idea that a person who pays taxes all his life can not leave the fruits of his labor to his posterity is obscene. Lots of ranches and farms "essed values" exceed the 3 million dollar trust value and these people are not wealthy by any standard.
